Hello, we’re Kim and Linda – two sisters just one year apart in age. We’re more than biological sisters – we’re best friends. We were born and raised in northern California, after our parents migrated from Louisiana. Naturally, we have always been very close – even now that we are well into our . . . well, let’s just say, forever 39’s.
Kim is the youngest (as she likes to remind me), and is the outgoing social butterfly. I am the more mature (yes), reserved, and observant one. Our company, Linda Christen Designs is a collaboration of our creativity and desire to bring freedom and confidence to women’s daily beauty routines.
Our Creative Path to Linda Christen Designs
Learning how to express ourselves creatively has always connected us, whether through music, singing, song-writing, and as children’s book authors. Designing our own line of women’s hair accessories specifically created to embrace color, confidence, and comfort just fell into place naturally. Our spirits have always yearned for ways to express and connect the different parts of who we are – to create the “whole” soulful experience of our existence. Our success with Linda Christen Designs is simply a reflection of our passion to share this feeling of “wholeness” with every woman, to help her soar and be her most authentic self.
As sisters, we’ve shared in each other’s joy and sorrow. Our first major loss in life was the passing of our kind and devoted father in our early twenties. Years later, we lost our beautiful, loving, strong-willed mother – the matriarch of our family. The most devastating blow to our lives, however, was the sudden and unexpected loss of my sister Kim’s adult son, and my nephew, Christen. He was our light, our rock, our sun, and our moon. Everything we did revolved around him. He was magical, as was our unconditional love for him. He was like my own child, and we shared in the joy of him. He was humble yet confident, kind, loving, intelligent, and had a great big heart. His beautiful smile would light up a room. We will always be so proud of him, Dr. Christen Mark Adams.
This is our tribute to him and that kind of love, and it is in his honor that we’ve named our business, Linda Christen Designs. Since Christen’s passing, we have struggled, grieved, changed, evolved, and transformed spiritually. Our biggest joy now is holding the two precious little boys he left behind and watching them grow.
Head Wraps, Beanies, and Bonnets, “Oh My!”
At Linda Christen Designs, we specialize in all types of hair wraps and fashion accessories made with satin charmeuse, knit, and dry fit materials to line the inside layers of our collection. We have researched and through trial and error have discovered satin-lining helps to preserve our hair styles by locking in moisture, reducing frizz, and minimizing the risk of breakage. My passion for designing hair wraps started over thirty years ago. I found myself getting my hair washed, blow dried, and curled at the salon quite often. The stylist would say, “do you wrap your hair at night?” She explained how this was the best way to preserve my hair style. “Wrap it in a silk or satin scarf,” she recommended. Well, I would have purchased a wrap right there on the spot if she sold them, but she didn’t. So, the search began. I was dismayed at how difficult it was to find a pretty head wrap that actually worked.
I eventually resolved to designing something special just for me. I picked out the fabric and bought satin to line the inside. My mother sewed it all together for me and I happily wore that bedtime wrap for over ten years! It worked beautifully, keeping my hairstyle in place, locking in moisture and shine, just as the stylist said it would. It gave me instant freedom and flexibility. How did I ever manage without it? It became my own velveteen rabbit, worn and tattered, but I really loved it. I would come home after work and put it on hours before bedtime; it really had become part of me – until I lost it and it felt like a piece of me was missing. There I was, back on my mission to create the perfect hair wrap. In the process, I realized there must be an entire niche market of women with curly, ethnic, straight, or professionally styled hair with the same distinct needs. Why not share the beauty?
Joy is in the Hair
I wanted to create hair wraps and accessories that helped every woman feel pretty, free, and fabulous no matter what their particular hair needs may be. Feeling good and looking good is something we all deserve. If we can help you feel that way, then we have succeeded.
I started with basic hair wraps for sleep, exercise, and all-day ‘on-the- go’ fashion. My sister has since joined in the fun and we’ve added turbans, beanies and shower caps. Forming this company and working together side by side has been our lifelong dream. We both have a passion for creating positive energy in everything we do. With each design, we strive to give women more confidence and freedom to be their most authentic self with minimal effort – saving their energy to shine bright from the inside out.
Our style and fabric choices are always fresh, showcasing the latest trends, but the overall look is classic and timeless so that our customers can enjoy their purchase for years to come – like my ‘velveteen rabbit’ wrap. We were destined to be sisters and lucky enough to be best friends; sharing a business with each other now feels like the most natural thing to do. We hope you’ve enjoyed our story and find your own ‘velveteen rabbit’ hair wrap within our collection.
We are ambassadors for women, providing fashionable and functional hair accessories so we can feel beautiful and empowered anytime of the day. Our products are designed with timeless appeal to provide daily style and effortless on-the-go beauty options.
